    Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas – One of my school’s design project is to visit some local brand restaurant and experience the design. But then I’m not going to talk about design but food! One of my favourite food is Thai food, because the food taste is very suitable for Northen Malaysian who likes strong sour and spicy taste.

    I went to one Thai restauran at Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur – My Elephant. Upon entering, it doesn’t feels like it’s a restaurant serving Thai food, the design and decorations is very modern and simple. The restaurant is very narrow and not-big. It was lunch time and they have special set menu. Only at night that you get to order their a la carte menu. We actually went to the restaurant quite early, 1 hour before it’s official opening hour, the staff was kind to allow us to go in to wait. We made our order and waited for the food to be served at 12pm sharp.

    They have a plenty of food in their lunch menu, Pad Thai (Thai beef noodle), tomyum seafood, fried rice and more. There’s 4 types of fried rice and each of us (my team member) ordered a different fried rice each, starting from RM9.90. Check it out below.

    Khao Phad Tom Yum – Tomyum Fried Rice (RM12.90) – Strong taste of Thai food spices, I don’t really like about it, my friend Arvin liked it.


    Khao Phad Sapparot – Pineapple Fried Rice (RM9.90) – Plenty of pineapple hidden in the rice and the rice is fried with curry powder, taste a bit salty, not bad.

    Khao Phad Kapi – Thai Belachan Fried Rice (RM9.90) – Served with sour mango, sweet dried shrimp, and sweet pork, tasted pretty good, the belachan taste is awesome.

    Khao Phad Lychee – Lychee Fried Rice (RM9,90) – Something different, but like typical fried rice top with a lychee.

    Frankly, all of the fried rice at there were kinda nice, the taste are good, the place is clean and the food presentation is very well too. Lunch menu comes with a fresh pandan drinks too. Definitely I will go back again to try out other food.

    Fusion Of Thai & Nyonya At Malabar Restaurant (Invited Food Session) – Last month, I was invited to join a bunch of Penang food hungry bloggers to check out this new restaurant in George Town – Malabar (Dine & Chill) Restaurant.

    Malabar Restaurant is located at the corner of Kampong Malabar, the junction of Cintra Street & Kampong Malabar. They serves Thai & Nyonya cuisine there, so don’t be surprise when Thai food has a sense of Nyonya, and Nyonya has a sense of Thai. It’s not authentically Thai & Nyonya, but the food special, fusionised, and good, affordable too.

    Besides serving food, they have rooms for tourist which serve as a lodging motel with affordable price. The trend of restaurant + room is getting popular in George Town, especially in colonial-style shop houses.

    On that day, we were served more than 10 dishes of their specialty food. Hungry me was so busying filling up my stomach and also taking photograph of the food. Let’s get into the photos and food below.

    Loh Bak – RM8/2pcs. I like the skin of the loh bak for being crunchy and the meat is sweet.

    Braised Garlic Pepper Pork Ribs – RM12. Somehow, the taste of garlic was not strong enough.

    Asam Pedas – RM8/2 fish. My favourite dish because of the sourish soup, be sure to eat it right after it’s served, else it will not be good when it’s cold. Yums.

    Stir Fried Thai Style Mayonnaise Prawns with Broccoli – RM22. Not-so-Thai-style after all because of the mayonnaise sauce. It’s more localized type of prawn but overall the taste is OK-good. Kids will like it.

    Thai Style Roast Chicken – RM11. I prefer it have more thick gravy which can be eat with rice, but still nice.

    Thai Style Beef Koay Teow – RM9.50. This is something different, the beef was good and tender and the beef balls were yummy. Though, the soup was a little bit salty, drink more water after eating this.

    Otak-otak – RM4 each. This one is yummy as you can find lots of fish meat in it.

    Deep Fried Belacan Chicken – RM12. One of my favourite dish here. The chicken was so crunchy and the fragrant of belacan was awesome!

    Chicken Soup With Herbs – RM26. Aromatic steamed herbal chicken with very sweet herbal soup. Nice.

    Fried Kangkung – RM9. The taste of belacan and shrimp paste are good.

    Malabar Belandar Eggs – RM4.50/2 eggs.

    Desserts of the Day – Steamed Pumpkin with Coconut Milk Custard – RM3.50. Finally, end our meal with the desserts. It’s sweet, it’s special. I’ve never try this before. It’s somehow blend the moist with sweetness, revealing an average taste, not too strong, not too light.


    Kasturi Lime with Sour Plum Drink – RM2.80. Something refreshing

    Hat Yai Food: Log Terrace Thai Food Restaurant – Here’s another restaurant that I’ve visited in Hatyai, Thailand yesterday and that is the Log Terrace Thai Food Restaurant. Well, this place has a theme and which is a loggy feeling with lot’s of artificial log in the interior and entrance which gives a jungle feeling.

    The location of it besides a river stream add a sense of nature while dining at there. The restaurant was very famous but then it’d become quiet nowadays, but still it’s introduces in tourism website. According to my Thai’s relative, this restaurant has been operating for about 8 years +.

    Thai food is awesome and I couldn’t resist myself from it. Though, eating too much of Thai food will feel weird and uncomfortable. At that time of dinner, I was still craving for Thai food, but at the moment of writing this, I am not already. HAHA.

    The restaurant has a nice set but then it’s quiet, on a Sunday evening. Check out the place here and food after the break.

    Hat Yai Food: Saban-nga Restaurant – Sorry if I am posting many food pr0n lately which seduces your taste bud and hungriness, I just couldn’t stop myself on sharing them with you guys. Haha. Yesterday, I went to a one-day trip to Hat Yai and the most interesting stuff at there to me was the food!

    I went to this restaurant called Saban-nga Restaurant which serves authentic Thai food. Most cool is steamed rice was in purplish colour! It’s located somewhere near to the university area and it was a Thai relative who brought us there.

    The restaurant has a nice and comfy interior with nice garden garden outside. Well, I don’t really know how to introduce the food, so I’ll let the photo speaks. The tomyum, the vegetable, the omelet, the pork leg (not really my favourite), the petai, were good!


    Purple steamed rice. The dye is from a kind of flower.


    Thai loves pork leg, which I don’t really fancy about it.


    Tomyum goong! With lots of shrimp and fish.


    Petai fried with onion, prawn and sambal. I realised that restaurant in Bangkok does not serves petai.


    Pickled mango cut into small strips, tasted sour.


    Thai-style omelet. Do you know why Thai’s omelet is so good? It’s because when they cook, they add in a little bit of milk, so it looks fluffy.


    Nam-prit, a kind of Thai’s sald which you eat raw vegetable with Thai-style spicy sambal.


    Fish cake which tasted like otak-otak.


    Fried kangkung or known as phak bung in Thai.


    Fried fish with meat cut into small pieces.


    A glass of ice blended watermelon to end up the meal and also to freshen up the day.

    Here comes some cheap Thai food hawker stall that I’ve visited recently for lunch. Few days ago, I went to the Pinang Delicious Food Court on Macalister Road for lunch. I heard that there’s some nice fried rice at there from friend, so I decided to order fried rice for me for lunch that day.

    The fried rice is actually from a Thai Food hawker stall and they serve various Thai dishes too but mainly fried rice.

    So, I ordered a Thai Tomyam fried rice (RM4). I found it pretty nice, but a little bit not so dry, and surprised to find crab stick in there which makes it tasted sweet. The tomyam taste was just nice, not too strong and feels good. If you are craving from strong tomyam, it maybe not enough for you. In my opinion, if it’s drier, then it’s perfect!

    Mom ordered a Pad Thai With Tomyam Soup served with white rice (RM4). The tomyam soup was pretty sour and the pad thai was filled with vegetable. I like the tomyam soup more. =D
