    Sunrise: Straits Quay, Penang
Sunrise: Straits Quay, Penang – This is my long waited sunrise post. Was thinking to post it up earlier but have caught up with some school assignments. I actually went for this sunrise photoshoot about a month ago when I was in Penang for a short holiday.

I woke up as early as 6.30am, drove there in 10 minutes and it was just nice as the sky was clear! However, I’ve no idea why it was pretty warm that morning. Usually, morning is cool and fresh, but it’s not on that day.

At there, I’ve seen people jogging at there, doing some morning walk. Seems like there’s people earlier than me. Haha. Straits Quay was so quiet in the morning, not forget to mention – pretty and peaceful! Set up my tripod and then I waited! It feels good in the morning, when the air is fresh and sky is clear. Let’s check out the sunrise now. =)

Sunrise: Teluk Tempoyak @ Batu Maung, Penang

Sunrise: Teluk Tempoyak @ Batu Maung, Penang – Checking out sunrise/sunset is one of my favourite thing to do now. The moment seeing the sun rises from the horizon, sun ray penetrating the dark sky is like greeting you of a coming new day, the feeling is just awesome. However, it’s not easy to wake up early for me. HAHA. Anyway, let’s check out some sunrise that I went watching at Teluk Tempoyak, a fishing village at Batu Maung, Penang few weeks back.

Sunrise: Teluk Tempoyak @ Batu Maung, Penang

Many friends told me that Teluk Tempoyak has the best sunrise in Penang, with the view of second Penang Bridge at the background and with clear blue sky, it’s even prettier. It was far from my place, took about 30 minutes to reach there. The fishing village was quiet in the morning. I was afraid that no sunrise can be seen because of the strong haze present on that morning. I waited anxiously with my girlfriend Hueisean for the sunrise.

Sunrise: Teluk Tempoyak @ Batu Maung, Penang

The haze looks like fog in picture and it makes me feels like Hangzhou, China. =D

The place is a mix of peaceful nature and a bit of messiness. One side, you can see green hill and hear the sound of the wave hitting the shore, another side you can see the construction of Second Penang Bridge. It was just two of us at the shore waiting for sunrise, we waited not long, about 7.25am, we saw the little round sun up in the air. Although there’s no clear blue sky, the sighting was cool with a red round sun blending with the view of Second Penang Bridge. Awesome.

Just sad that it’s not a clear blue sky morning.  If I’ve got omph next time, I’ll come back again, it’s pretty far to me. Haha. After the sunrise, we went for breakfast at Church Street.

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg Breakfast @ Imbi MarketKnown to Imbi Market to locals, but officially known as the Pasar Bukit Bintang which is a wet market located stone throw away from Bukit Bintang shopping district. I never know there’s such a nice wet market located in the centre of Kuala Lumpur providing good food and culture. This place gives me a feeling of eating at places like Presgrave Market (5th Road Market) in Penang.

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market
Original Sisters Crispy Popiah where you can find it almost at any mall in Kuala Lumpur. Previously Taylor’s University has a stall but no idea why it’s closed down now.

I was searching for kaya bread and half-boiled egg for breakfast and found this place on Google. I set up my Waze app GPS from my phone and headed to this place. Upon arriving, I felt good, seeing locals shopping for groceries and many people eating at the food stalls area. This place is fun, this place is so local.

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

I was too excited and saw many good food around, having no idea which is the best, I randomly ordered a set of kaya steam bread + half boiled egg, and also a plate of wan tan noodle. I’ve got to say all of them were good too me except the wan tan mee was expensive @ RM5/plate! OMG. Although the noodle is springy and the char siew is sweet and BBQ enough but then it’s kinda expensive. In Penang, you can find similar wan tan mee for RM2.50 at Chowrasta Market!

As for the steam kaya bread, it’s good, but Toh Soon’s Cafe has a better one. Haha. I heard that there’s another stall has good kaya toast (instead of steam) at this market too, I am going to check out next time.

I have a scrumptious breakfast that morning and I will come back again, for other food.

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street – Last, last Sunday, I went to Muntri Street in Penang with my classmate and a group of pro sketchers to sketch the place, for leaning and sharing and fun. Muntri Street is really a nice place in Penang full of beautiful eclectic colonial style shophouses. It has history, it has story and arts. There’s many guesthouses at there too!

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Interior design students from Taylor’s University was having a trip to Penang, the most beautiful city in Malaysia and one of the activity was ‘Sketch Muntri Street’, also an activity conducted by pro sketcher Ch’ng Kiah Kiean. I feel sad that my hand is not as pro as them, I don’t really sketch stuff, in fact, I kinda suck at it. I did some sketch, a bit,  but then I went photo shooting around the place instead.

It’s a nice sunny Sunday morning and the weather was pretty clear, but then it’s hot too! I sweat quite a lot. Back to sketch, looking at other’s people sketches, I told myself I really have to sketch more. It doesn’t have to be uber pretty or detailed, as long as it has feeling, has visual, has proportion than it’s good, according to one of the pro sketches. Sketching is for fun and to express one’s feel to a visual.

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Guess what I have found on Muntri Street? It’s another super big mural done by Ernest Zacharevic who did the Armenian Street’s mural. This one is really huge on a big piece of wall. It looks a bit scary but what the story is that it’s about a little girl learning kung-fu.

  • Penang Bridge On A Quiet Morning

Penang Bridge On A Quiet Morning

Penang Bridge On A Quiet Morning – No, I am not in Penang, I am still in Petaling Jaya, studying. I miss home now, I miss the food, I miss my girlfriend and family. Took this photo while enjoying the sunrise at Chew Jetty. I have a friend from Temerloh, Pahang who had never came to Penang before and he told me he has never seen or know about the Penang Bridge before, even not on a photo. I told him about it, and the funny question is “What is the Penang Bridge used for?”. HAHA.

  • Sunrise At Chew Jetty, Penang

    Sunrise At Chew Jetty, Penang

Sunrise At Chew Jetty, Penang – Last time, I went to Jelutong Expressway, near the fishing village there to photograph the sunrise but it was kinda fail. Then I went to Chew Jetty for sunrise, it’s not golden orange sun, yet the effect, the sky, the cloud and everything are awesome. Not perfect, but I like it.

Well, I’ve realised my friends here in Kuala Lumpur don’t really know how Penang looks like and how awesome she is. Some have not even been to Penang, they thought Penang is just beaches and Penang Bridge, that’s all, they don’t know how beautiful the city is now is. Haha. So now, I want to share to them some nice sunrise photo from a seaside settlement of Chew Jetty, a settlement/Chinese village that has over 100 years of history, and super happenings during Chinese New Year. The local Chinese movie – Ice Kacang Puppy Love was filmed here too!

Heard that Teluk Tempoyak has the best sunrise in Penang, wonder when can I check it out. Haha.

  • Cloudy Sunrise At Jelutong Expressway

    Cloudy Sunrise At Jelutong Expressway

Cloudy Sunrise At Jelutong Expressway – There’s so many nice sunrise-watching & photography spots in Penang. How wish that I can explore more right now, but then I couldn’t because I am now in Kuala Lumpur. Gonna find some nice spot here too.

Few weeks back, I went to Jelutong Expressway to scout for a good spot to do sunrise photography. It’s somewhere near the fishing house, I couldn’t find it at first. I’ve seen many people go there to take photograph, but I have no idea which is the best spot. It’s not really comfortable at there because of the mosquitoes, better prepare an insect repellant to prevent mosquito aedes.

Well, the sky was not clear that day, it’s cloudy and so the sun could not really be seen, it’s just the beauty of dawn and twilight.

China Trip – Zhouzhuang 周庄: 20 Minutes Canal Boat Ride (Day 3) – After checking out the sunrise, and a rest at the inn, we went to take a canal boat ride. The boat ride operates from 9a.m. and costs 100RMB for each boat and a boat allows a maximum of 6 person on board. It’s similar to gondola ride in Venice. Despite the expensive price, we still went for it because I think that it’s things to do at Zhouzhuang as there’s nothing much else, except experience and photograph.

The ride takes about 20 minutes and it’s manually driven by an old aunty at the back of the boat. She kept insisting us to tip her so that she can sing a few local song for us to listen but we refused as the tip needs at least 20RMB and we were stingy. =D

Zhouzhuang: 20 Minutes Boat Ride Along Canal

It’s a one-way boat ride and just feel sad that the canal is not long enough. Zhouzhuang is really small, I wonder is there any bigger water town in China like Venice. Overall, it’s a good experience on the boat, it’s very relaxing and calm on the boat ride but it’s kinda weird when people looked at us. Haha. It’s not really a must-do, it’s up to you, if you have 4 person or more, then it’s worth it.

    “2 person for 100RMB? errr… errr…. ok-lah *finger cross*”. =D

China Trip – 周庄 Zhouzhuang: Early Morning Check Out The Sunrise  (Day 3)– It’s 6.15am when my alarm of my mobile phone rang. Reluctant to wake up, I lay on the bed for a little while, my brother too. I got up, pour myself a glass of water to recharge my water level, and discharge the unwanted water in the toilet. It’s cold in the toilet. Brushed up, dressed up, prepared my camera, and off we went for a walk in Zhouzhuang to see the sunrise.

We’ve check the sunrise time and it’s about 6.40am. Upon stepping foot out of the inn, icy cold air pinched my face. It’s 1 degree celcius. Surprisingly, this cold is not as cold as the day before, although it’s cold, I felt good, acceptable, except that my hand must have glove on all the time, and my scarf too.

    Aunty/Ah Mah selling tea leaves.

The sun rises already when we were out, outside was bright but quiet and cold. There’s no people on the walkway. While we were heading East, we bumped up with an aunty, carrying goods to sell. It’s really early for her, we bought a pack of Ah Po tea leaves from her for 10RMB. We continue heading to east of Zhouzhuang to see the sun.

Zhouzhuang: Early Morning Check Out The Sunrise

Although the sun has rises, it’s just nice that it’s still near the horizon. There’s no tourist out at that time, except locals bring their kids to school, washing cloth by the canal, and clearing up the fallen leaves and trash on the canal. They are strong, I see some of them do not wear gloves on their hand.

Zhouzhuang: Early Morning Check Out The Sunrise

At the east side of Zhouzhuang, there’s a park, a temple and a bridge. The bridge actually connects to the outer area of Zhouzhuang, which is not under the ancient water town. It’s not open to public, but the gate was open, so we went to the bridge to check it out. The other side of the beach is a housing area, not under Zhouzhuang ancient water town.

In the shops selling those Wan Shan Hock (pork knuckles), I wonder do they change to a fresh one everyday because I see not many people buying it.

It’s worth to wake up early that morning, it should have been earlier, but still OK. We went to eat a little food at a small shop which actually cater for locals, I ate a herbal egg cha ye dan, it’s only 1.5RMB. Later, we headed back to hotel again, for half an hour sleep before going out again to explore more of Zhouzhuang.

  • Went To Penang Hill For Sunrise But…

Went To Penang Hill For Sunrise But…

Went To Penang Hill For Sunrise But… – The Sun has already risen up in the air. Darnn. Next time I should have wake up earlier. I woke up at about 6am in the morning and planned to go up to Penang Hill to see the sunrise and capture the beauty moment of it. I prepared myself and started my journey at about 6.40am.

I Googled and get to know that the Sun rises at about 7.36am so it was still early for me. The sky was still dark out there. When Hueisean and I reached was already a little past 7am. Happily seeing the tram was there, but sadly get to know that the next tram operation hour is at 7.30am. Very failed.

By the time we reached the top of the hill was already 7.45am. The Sun was already up in the air, saying hello to us. So no more Sunrise watch. Arghh. The air was pretty chilly and cold up there, felts good and I will definitely go up again.

Not many people up there in the morning except for a few of the residents and a few visitors like us. Hawker stalls haven’t open at that time, nothing much to do, after capturing some shots, we went back down.
