    They are common here – called learning centers. The goal is to raise the kid'sSAT(scholastic apitude test) score(runs from 200-800),so he has a betterchance of getting into a higher ranked college ( Harvard , Berkeley). I don'tknow how effective they are , but I suppose there is some benefit of doingsample tests. Public school administrators don't like them. Enjoy Singapore !
