Ha! Two years ago, I went to this market before and 1 month ago, I went to that market again. It’s not the typical wet market like in Malaysia, it’s the Chatuchak/Jatujak Weekend Market which is a famous flea maket in Bangkok. I bet you guys who have been to Bangkok know about the place, but if you don’t, it’s an attraction place in Bangkok.
(mom and son.)
It’s always very hot in Bangkok. Last time, I saw people had a towel around their neck, shopping there is like doing exercise, because of the crowded environment and lack of trees and fan, that place is very hot. Before going there, mom was like so excited, but after walking around, shopping around for some times, mom couldn’t stand the heat and keep saying wanted to get off the place. Haha.
Seriously, you need a cap and a portable battery powered fan and a bottle of ice water. Then it will be better. Don’t carry so many things with you, make it as simple as it is, wear cotton shirt and you won’t feel uncomfortable walking around. I had a camera around my neck all the time and it made my neck so tiring.
The weekend market is only open on the weekend, Saturday and Sunday but not Friday. There’s a lot of locals and also tourists too. It’s very interesting to see the market selling a lot a lot of stuff. You got me? I mean a lot, a wide varieties. There’s food, toys, clothing apparels, souviniers, furniture, home decor accessories, lightings, DVDs, and even pets and etc etc. It’s just like a hypermarket without air conditioning. The choices are too much until you don’t know how to choose your desire things.
(there’s a people filming us.)
There’s one time, we had walked till end of the market and I wanted to buy something back at where we arrived. That time, we were at the other side of the market and the stall where that I wanted to visit is at the other end, wow, it’s so far from where we were. You guys who is visiting there should first go to information counter to obtain a map before you start your adventure in the market maze. Here’s a link to the map.
When you sees big item, like home furnishing, accessories, there’s actually DHL, FedEx and other courier services that help you ship your things back to your home.
There’s also an electric car that move you around the big market too. Though I didn’t get a chance to hop on, we were on foot all the time and we almost walked the whole market. Tired.
In short, Chatuchak or recently known as Jatujak Weekend Market is hot and a must visit in Bangkok.
