I was at the hair salon today and watching the TV in the salon while waiting my brother have his hair done. There’s a making of a movie called Kinta. I knew that movie from the movie poster at the cineplex but didn’t attract me a lot until I saw the making and the trailer of the movie.
Now, I tell myself I am going to watch this. Surprisingly the movie doesn’t look Malaysian. The setting is in Kinta, Perak during 1880s when Chinese immigrant came to Malaysia. This is a martial arts movie with a lot of fist, punch and kicks.
It is Malaysia’s first ever full-fledged martial arts movie. It’s been shown at the Cannes Film Festival, and headlined the recent KL Film Festival. Distributors in China, Japan and Europe have snapped it up. It’s even slated to be the first ever-Malaysian film to be screened in regular cinemas in America. [from kinta1881.blogspot.com]
I’ll say, let’s support our local film.
