I have been hesitating for quite some time to write up about my Phuket trip a few months back and here I am back to share about my trip experience. As for this time, I am going to talk about the Phi Phi Island tour that we paid for at Phuket.
Going to Phuket isn’t just about relaxing on the beach, drinking beers, and shopping at the night market. One of the must do is get on their tour to the surrouding island like the more famous ones are James Bond Island and Phi Phi Island. They called it the James Bond island because there’s a scene of James Bond movie was film at there, the real name is actually Phang Nga Bay.
We paid 1,800 baht per person of the island tour to Phi Phi Island. Phi Phi Island is more on snorkelling and beach relaxing while to James Bond Island is kayaking. I think we got conned by the tour center, the price that we paid could be cheaper.
The tip is, never buy your tour package via the tour center that the taxi, or rented van brings you to, you can actually find cheaper tour price at the little tour stall at Patong Beach or other tourist spots in town. The cheapest that we found was 1,300 baht and that’s in Patong Beach, it’s just so much cheaper that what we had paid for. They are just agent or middle man, no matter where you pay your tour for, the person that comes and pick you up is from the same company and which all goes to the same place.
The Phi Phi Island tour is a one day tour to a few islands with snorkeling, beach relaxing and sight seeing. There were me, mom and dad. We packed our stuff like extra shirts, towels, sunblock lotion and of course my camera. We waited for a van to come early morning and it fetched us to the pier where everyone who signed up for the tour meets.
The weather was sunny and windy in the morning yet it’s lovely. I didn’t want to become black, so put on sunblock lotion, in fact I am a person that very easy to get tanned but uneasy to get back fair, I prefer to stick with what my skin color is right now. One thing is that buying sunblock lotion at there is kinda expensive, so if you may, bring one from your hometown. =)
So, there’s this swimming paddle renting service, a pair of this paddle is rented for 100 baht per pair. I took one but to be honest, I don’t really know how to swim with it, I prefer doing it without the paddle.
We waited at the pier for like half an hour to wait for everyone to arrive. There’s a lot of people going out to sea for the island tour too and each were on different boat.
They have this sticker for us which indicates our speedboat number and 3 is the table number where we sit for lunch.
It’s about making money again. There’s a lady helped each group of family or partner to take a photo before getting on the speedboat, the photos will then be printed and sell to us when the trip ends. It’s 300 baht per photo, yes we bought it, for memories.
The first stop was Maya Bay where the movie The Beach was filmed in 2000, but I am not going to talk about it in this post. It took us like 45 minutes to reach there. The ride was real bumpy and it was my first speedboat ride. It felt dizzy at first but after a while, the dizziness was gone with some deep breath and relax. A free flow of soft drinks were served on the speedboat.
You can actually see Maya Bay from the photo above. =)
