Newcastle: Za Za Bazaar – World Buffet With An Asian Street Food Theme

Newcastle: Za Za Bazaar, World Food Banquet – Are you a fan of buffet? No, I am not, but then I still head to buffet some times, especially during any festivity, like friend’s birthday, or just a celebration of some events, like the very most recent one at Za Za Bazaar in Newcastle, sort of a little Chinese New Year meal with a few friends from Malaysia and Hong Kong.

A little bit on why I am not a fan of buffet is I don’t enjoy the bloated feeling every time after a buffet meal. HAHA. Buffet is fun of course, with a plentiful choices of food to choose, but then some times it’s hard to try everything, moreover the heart is always thinking that, ‘I must eat the most out of the money I’ve paid’, which is a typical ‘kiam-siap (stingy)’ Malaysian attitude. That’s why, I rather pay the same amount for a decent few-course meals with people serving me. I am quite lazy.

Talking back about this Za Za Bazaar that I’ve just visited recently, at The Gate, Newcastle,  I was quite amazed with the interior setup which have an Asian street food concept that feels very graphical, food stalls and Chinese. In compare with another buffet restaurant in Newcastle – Kingdom Buffet, I find Za Za has a better interior setup which somehow psychologically made my meal better (hey, I study interior design, so it’s the decor is very important to me). =D

Food type ranges from oriental, Asian, Indian to British, American, Mexian, Italian and beyond. It’s not surprised though that most of the food served are oriental > western (local) as most buffet restaurants in the UK are operated/founded by Asians. Well, forgive me for not taking any photos of food as I was busy eating and enjoying the interior space, but I can share with you some food that I like. Japanese sushi, American and British section did not capture my taste buds, whereas Indian curry gave me the best sensation of all; Italian, Chinese on the other hand leaved an OK-good impression in my mouth and some of the fried noodles were rather salty. I encountered a few weird food too, but I think some would like it. For £13.99/person (dinner, weekday), I find it quite reasonable, but if really-really-really would like to compare, Momiji in Singapore and Jogoya in Kuala Lumpur are so much better.

  • Singapore: Momiji Japanese Buffet, Revenue House

Singapore: Momiji Japanese Buffet, Revenue House

Singapore: Momiji Japanese Buffet, Revenue House – On a after-work Friday evening, after fetching my brother from the CBD, he brought me and Clarice to the Revenue House at Novena for this Japanese buffet @ Momiji Japanese Buffet Restaurant for dinner. There’s nothing much special of having Japanese buffet in Singapore, it feels the same to me, except that the currency is in Sing dollar. Interestingly it’s located in a government building where it’s very quiet after work.
Comparing to Malaysia’s, it’s only S$36.80++/per pax, given that you earn in Singapore dollar, it’s pretty affordable comparing to at least RM80/per pax in Malaysia with the similar salary payroll, but in Ringgit.
Forget about the money talk. Let’s get into the restaurant for food. If you come early, in between 6.30pm to 7.30pm, you can get a free flow of Sapporo beer. I assume that they want to bloated your stomach with beer so you can’t consume much. HAHA.
Nevertheless, the buffet choices was pretty interesting, there’s a wide range of fresh raw sashimi which I only targeted the raw salmon and shrimp. Other than that, the teppanyaki and cook-on-the-spot section attracted me well, as well as the dinner special of snow crab and crayfish. Snow crab was really interesting with juicy and salty crab meat.
Desserts furthermore satisfied my sweet tooth with a few repeats of Haagen Dazs ice cream, and cakes.
Ended with a satisfied stomach, fulled, and a smile on the face. We then headed to Gardens By The Bay for a little night walk to ease the digestion.

  • Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve

Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve

Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve – The next time, if you ever wanted to go Lolipot Shabu-shabu on Christmas Eve or any other occasion, please, please make a reservation first! I’ll include the telephone number at the end of the post. Hahahaahaha.

Funny and interesting and cute name – Lolipot. =D
Arron Lim, the India boy, because he is studying in India.
    Me and Alvin.

Alvin suggested Lolipot for Christmas Eve’s dinner and we were there at 8.30pm and it’s really full, full of people. The staff told us that we don’t need to wait anymore even though there’s one unseated table beca.use it’s reserved. We insisted to wait, for the next half hour but no luck. Until we decided to walk away, to somewhere else, the staff ran out and inform us that one customer cancelled their reservation. Is us lucky or too persevere?

    Milksoup.

It’s my first time to Lolipot, a special name and it’s local style of shabu-shabu as each person gets their own pot and there’s 4 choices of soup – Clear 清汤,Tomyam, Kim Chi & Milk. Sounds interesting right? But I am more a heavy taster, so tomyum it was! The experience gets better if we get to sit near the moving belt as  we can take anything we want from the belt like sushi for the steamboat. Either way, we order from a piece of paper and wait for it to be served. Not bad, something special, and it’s All-You-Can-Eat @ RM38++/person and pretty worth it and hygienic because you eat with your own pot.

    Arron, me, Simon and Alvin.

Interesting place for steamboat/shabu-shabu and that’s my Christmas Eve dinner 3 guys! Yeah and no girls.

Extra member for Christmas Eve – Raykee Gor eating McChicken Nugget and Simon.

Chaiwei, Me, Yiphing, Raykee, Simon and Arron.

Actually, we don’t really have plan for Christmas, nor the feel for it, we spent like 15 minutes standing by the roadside thinking where to go, spent 15 minutes in the car counting down for Christmas and see other people celebrated it. Ended eating McChicken Nuggets at McDonald’s at 1am with extra 3 friends. Haha.

Not a bad night out, Christmas only mah… Merry Christmas! =)

  • Buffet Breakfast at PJ Hilton Hotel

Buffet Breakfast at PJ Hilton Hotel

I love buffet breakfast provided by hotel most of the time especially at a hotel with good reputation and stars like the Hilton Hotel at Petaling Jaya. A couple weeks ago, I was staying there for a night with my parents and we were given free buffet breakfast. Since it’s free, for sure I would wake up early to check it out. I heard that these buffet breakfast can cost up to RM50.

With a variety of International cuisine ranging from Chinese, Western, Indian to local Malaysian food. They are good, but, I felt they were not the best hotel breakfast to me. I still like the one at Sensa Hotel, Bandung, Indonesia which have a better dining experience and food.

Do you bother about the hotel breakfast or just oversleep for you trip? =)
