There’s a big event in Penang last weekend and it’s the Bon Odori Festival. It started from 6pm and I was there very late and in fact it’s over when I arrived at the site. Huan Sheng fetched me there and we actually arrived near the Esplanade at 9pm but the traffic jam and super turtle slow moving traffic made us stuck in the car for an hour. It’s so hard to find a place to park.
According to the paper, there’s like 50000 people at this Bon Odori Festival. Personally thinking, the best part of Bon Odori is the firework. The food there are rather expensive and the entertainment are almost the same every year with balloon fishing, catching gold fish and some little game stall. Another fun thing is to join the Japanese dance together.
I was there last year but didn’t really do much too.
The fireworks showcase was said to be shown at 10pm but it started at around 945pm. We were almost there at the parking place but when the sparks strike the air, all the car stopped in the middle of the road and everyone looked up. I just got to watch the fireworks from the car.
The fireworks was not so interesting compared to previous years. It’s only 5 minutes and not much pattern, yet I love fireworks and it’s still pretty.
Same like last year, the food stall were line up in front of City Hall. A lot of people was going home when we arrived but then there’s still many people at the food stall area. The food stalls then started to give discount on their food because it’s getting late and the event had ended after the fireworks showcase.
Thanks to son of YB Danny Law, I got a free Japanese meal box. =)
