Kek Lok Si Visit Number 1 During Chinese New Year
Written by Nicholas Chan on March 5, 2010 – 1:49 am -Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang most famous pagoda temple, also very famous with big big Kuan Yin statue in South East Asia, perhaps Asia. During the past 15 days of Chinese New Year, the temple was lighted up with lamps and LED at night. The only problem is that they only light it up during the Chinese New Year and not during normal day, no idea why and don’t like not lighting up during normal days.
Road towards Kek Lok Si temple was jam with cars going up to the temple every day for the past 2 weeks. I wanted to go there to take photos for a long time already, and I have got chance. Why Visit Number 1 because that I went up twice, this was my first time, with the Leo Club people and I was there late, so didn’t take many photos.
Stupid traffic jam made me stuck in the car for almost an hour. It’s really that crazy, the road is so narrow and we were hanging there. Reached the temple at around 10pm and it’s late already. Didn’t really have the mood to shoot and there’s too many people, I don’t like people without camera waiting me to take photos, because they will be just standing there looking at me with the tripod. So, I thought of going there the other day.
More over, due to time constrain, I can’t shoot the whole Kek Lok Si, every corner of it.

Alvin Yang, user of Nikon D90.

Lion Ong Lai, user of Canon EOS 500D.

Kenny, user of Canon EOS 400D, most powerful with 17-40 F4/L Lens.
The Leo Club people was Lion Ong Lai, Kok Sheng, Tze Yang, Tee Jin, Him Keat, Kenny and Wallace. Some were there early already, so they get to shoot more, and for me, who were late, only get to shoot a little.
We took the lift up to the Kuan Yin statue there, unfortunately, it’s late and we only get to go up but not down. Paid RM2 for it and met a long-time-no-see friend, Ah Leng.
Got up but didn’t get the chance to go near to the foot of Kuan Yin statue and when I wanted go up, they closed the lights already. OMG, that’s why, I planned to go there again on the other.
Although lights closed, we took some group shot before walking down to the car park, in the dark! Stay tune for the post of my next visit. =)

Passport-size Photoshoot with Jing Min
Written by Nicholas Chan on July 27, 2009 – 12:39 am -Last Tuesday, I went the Excel camera shop in town to have a passport-sized photo shoot which to be used for school magazine thing. Jing Min was with me that time because he wanted to have the photoshoot too. Actually we had already took that shot in school last year but we found it not satisfying so we went to take again.
It took us like around 30 minutes for the shoot. We took quite a lot of shots until we get a satisfied shot, really bother the camera man a lot. Then, we requested for a little editing too, especially on the eyes part to remove eye bag and dark circle.
One thing about me is when people is pointing a camera at me and is take photo of me, I can’t really act naturally and turn my smile and my facial look are very unnatural and unrelax. I don’t want that though, I want something more relax, natural and simple. That’s the problem of me, being not photogenic, but I like to appear on photos. Hehe

Walking along Gurney Drive
Written by Nicholas Chan on October 8, 2008 – 11:01 pm -It was Sunday during the twilight before the night falls. I woke up from my long afternoon nap and found myself alone at home. At first, I was thinking to go for a jog along Gurney Drive, though the sky was getting dark and maybe I’ll just pack my gear and go for an evening walk along Gurney Drive and take some randomness photo of Gurney Drive.
It was hell lot of sweat even though I did not jog, squarting up and down to catch a nice angle and looking for nice shot is a good exercise. However, Gurney Drive didn’t really have something nice for me to shoot.
I saw a not-actually-a-lot but not little of people chattering, walking, taking photos at Gurney Drive. It seems like a nice place to hang out, do a little walk, talkings but then the low tides uglyfied the place and the narrow pavement is narrow, they should have widen it so it will something like the Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong. Why not landfill the low tides area and build a park by the sea? I think it’s a good idea.
SEC more, the new electronic appliances store in Gurney Plaza. I didn’t knew about its opening until I saw the advert board outside Gurney Plaza when it lights on.
The sky was getting darker and I did not go further towards Gurney Drive, just staying around G Hotel area. Eventually, I went in Gurney Plaza for less than 5 minutes and I took the side exit and went back to Gurney Drive.
From far, I could see the new area of Penang the Tanjung Sri Pinang. It’s a new residential area and a lot of houses, offices and apartment are yet to be built.
Later on, I went to Gurney Drive hawker area to buy myself a drinks before going home. Seriously, I don’t eat there although I live near to where it is, the food is no good (to me).
