The Day Before SPM Result Day
Written by Nicholas Chan on March 22, 2010 – 2:00 am -11th March was SPM Result Day, it was a very gan cheong (nervous), fun-filled, scary day, but the day before was even more gan cheong. This day, I woke up very early in the morning, it was like 5am and I was so blur and sleepy that time. I needed to send daddy and mommy to the airport so I had to wake up so early.
Pumped up the music in the car to make me awake, I went to shoot the sunrise at Queensbay there for fun, it was really for fun because I was alone and no plan for that day.
Then I went to meet Arron at his house. We then go for breakfast at Jalan Tengah, Bayan Lepas for the nice roti canai.
The day was quiet, no idea where to go and keep thinking the day after it. It’s SPM you know. I didn’t dare to expect what I would get in SPM because I am not very good, and I am not very bad, I am always stuck in the middle. Lousy sia.

It was only me, Arron and Liang Sun at first. Yiphing and Chien Chern came to meet us later on.
After breakfast, we spontaneously went to cybercafe for game. It had been many years I didn’t go play LAN game already, really many years. It’s just so spontaneous as we didn’t know where to go already and it’s early. Was wanting to play Left 4 Dead but we were noob and have no idea how to start a game, end up playing Counter Strike for two hours. Haha.
Then everyone went back to their home respective.
Had a afternoon rest and evening, we went to watch From Paris With Love. Nice action packed movie and I like it. Then it’s supper time at mamak stall. Chien Chern came over to my place for beer and movie. I actually planned to sleep early, but because of my afternoon nap, I hardly sleep at night, really shit.
By the way, got LOMO feel or not?

Sunrise at Queensbay
Written by Nicholas Chan on March 15, 2010 – 10:57 pm -That day, a few days ago, I woke up very the early to fetch mom and dad to the airport. Then I was alone that time, no idea where to go, it’s so early and remembered that the tripod for my camera was in the car, so I went to Queensbay to take some photos and let the wind blow.
Maybe it rained a bit during midnight, it’s so chilly and windy that morning. Cold… and I like!
It’s very quiet early in the morning. The sun hasn’t got up yet and it’s only a little brightness from far. Forgotten that I was only in a short pants and t-shirt, waiting the sun come up to warm me up.
No people at Queensbay, only like 6-7 people, one people sweep the floor and some were like me letting the wind blow and got people go morning walk too!
Some more got boat pass by! By the way, the sea at Queensbay is so much nicer than Gurney Plaza, there’s no ugly muddy seaside. Gurney Drive is so geli (ugly) during low tide.
Got aeroplane also! Flights are always early. Check out my dust spot on my camera sensor, so cool.
Waited for like 45 minutes, the sun has got up in the end, it’s time to pack up and go home.

Last Sunday at Chowrasta Market
Written by Nicholas Chan on January 25, 2010 – 7:41 pm -It’s the time for a yearly visit to Chowrasta Market in town. Every year, when close to Chinese New Year, mom sure bring me to Chowrasta Market for a walk. I also like going there because there’s many people, very happenings, I like!
Why before Chinese New Year? I also don’t know why, maybe there’s more Chinese New year-related stuff to see at there I think.
Woke up pretty early that morning, at around 8am, freshing up took me 1 hour then arrived there at around 93oam. There’s already many people there when I was there.

Oranges are healthy! You like? I only like orange juice.
I went to have breakfast at there, it was a plate of wan tan noodle and it’s not nice, wrong stall I went.
After that just walkaround with mom and dad.
The most crowded stalls are the stalls that sell clothes, many ladies gathered and pick their favourite. Although there’s no fitting room, clothes bought can be exchange after you find it not suitable. Cool right?
Though, pasar malam (night market) have more fashion stuff then morning market, morning market is more about meat and vegetable.
Very old fashion type of buying fish. Dad told me last time when he was small, he buys fish in this way and till today, it’s the same.
One very stupid thing is, I don’t know why people want to drive into this crowded street. It’s market and full of people in the morning, they knew it and they still want to move it, mindless. The state authority should road block the place during the market hour.
Do you visit your local market? Is it more interesting than this or not? =)

5SA1 Class of 2009 on the school’s field
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 28, 2009 – 12:22 am -Yesterday was a party day in school and there’s no lesson for whole day. It’s just party and taking photos. My class monitor, Juan asked us to go to the field to take a photos from the third floor, it’s not aerial photo yet.
I passed my camera to a friend, Chien Chern, he was helping me to operate the camera from the third floor where my class was. Then we made ourself into 2 words on the field.
Guess what alphabet it is? It’s A1, but the 1 doesn’t look like 1, the 3 person in front should make a straight line vertically. We were kinda rush at that time so, it’s just something fast but yet we got some memories for my class of 2009 in Chung Ling High School and that 5S(cience)A1. Thanks to Juan for this idea.

Morning Walk to Patong Beach
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 14, 2009 – 1:10 am -Dad and mom are not really a beach person and they prefer to walk at the stalls selling stuff then to the beach. On the 2nd day of my Phuket trip few months back, I woke up early and went down for a morning walk. If I were to sleep in the hotel, it would have wasted my time, so it’s better to do something useful.
Washed up myself, took my camera, wore a shorts and slippers and out I went. It’s so quiet on the road and most of the stalls were not open at that time. There’s just a little vehicle moving on the road and it’s like only me.
Everything seems so calm and quiet at that time. It’s so unlike the night before where everyone were drinking and shouting at the pubs. The sun was not that hot in the morning, it’s nice walking on the road.
Passed Bangla Road and out to Patong Beach. Some pubs were refilling their beer and alcohol supply in the morning. There’s like so many many beer and demand for it is definitely very high.
While walking passed some pubs, I found some interesting photos pasting on the walls. They are photos of tourists who came to their pubs. It’s pretty cool, don’t you think so. It’s like happy faces everywhere.
Walked across a road and I got to the beach. It’s still quiet.
There’s only a little people walking on the beach and swimming in the sea. The Thais were setting up the umbrella and chairs on the beach. The chairs are to rent for people and it’s 15baht per chair for unlimited time. If you walk away and come back, you have to pay again. It’s so nice to have so many chairs and the beach is pretty clean. It’s so unlike what it is in Batu Feringghi. True. I wonder why Batu Feringghi can’t be like this?
I had my breakfast then at Burger King. =) Yummy!

上下九步行街 Shang Xia Jiu Pedestrian Shopping Street in Daytime
Written by Nicholas Chan on May 5, 2009 – 5:47 pm -This is my brother Yikhung and he is celebrating his 21st birthday this Saturday.
Back to Guangzhou, behind him is the famous Shang Xia Jiu Pedestrian Shopping Street (上下九步行街 Shang Xia Jiu Bu Xing Jie) in Liwan district in Guangzhou. That’s also where the hotel that I was staying is at.
The tall building standing on the right is Holiday Inn Shifu Hotel, the place we were staying in Guangzhou. Nice room and low room rates. Unfortunately, no Internet access.
This is one of the tourist attractions in Guangzhou, a shopping heaven for the shoppers. Comparing this to Beijing Lu Pedestrian Shopping Street (Beijing Lu Bu Xing Jie), this place is more famous to tourist than Beijing Lu. It’s a long stretch of road only for us, human to walk. No vehicles can be driven into this area.
One nice thing is that the buildings here are preserved from the old time till now. Do you know 西关 Xiguan, a very famous place during the old Guangzhou time and this is the place. If you watches TVB series like search 东山飘雨西关晴 (dong san piu yu sai kuan cheng/cantonese),西关大少 (sai kuan dai siu/cantonese), you will know about this place.
Most of the building and shops are preserved from old times and look gorgeous on the inside. Their restaurant are so nice and there’s elevator in there sending people up and down.
Very cool.
This street is quite quiet in the morning but when it comes to the noon, people started filling the street, mostly window shopping and the voice of promoters standing outside the store shouting and clapping for customer fill the air. The shops played loud Chinese techno music and the store promoter follows the beat and clapping their hand as if they are at a party, which all is just to attract passers by into their store to take a look.
I was standing in front of the cinema.
Shops open early at there too at around 9am and there’s not many customer. The crowded place in the morning is the restaurant where people go there to yam zhou cha (drink morning tea) and eat dim sum. Dim sum at there is a lot cheaper compairing to our local’s.
It was cold in the morning with light wind blowing towards you. There’s sun but it didn’t warm me up. =) There weren’t any Chinese flag when we were there the first few days, but it’s put up during 1st January 2009, New Year Day. Cool.
To go to Shang Xia Jiu Bu Xing Jie/Shang Xia Jiu Pedestrian Shopping Street/上下九步行街 by Guangzhou Metro, you can take the Guangzhou Metro on Line 1 to Changshou Lu Station and walk 10 minutes following the arrow on the road. Do check the local map at the metro for more info.
