Went to KL to Check Out MIFF with Dad
Written by Nicholas Chan on March 13, 2010 – 5:53 pm -Last weekend, there’s a exhibition/expo happened in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. It’s the Malaysia International Furniture Fair. Dad is in part of the furnishing business so he brought us along to Kuala Lumpur. Usually, going there would be more likely a shopping trip for me and mommy but somehow, I didn’t really buy anything. It’s more like a business-acompany trip, nothing to buy actually and there’s no sale in Malaysia.
To be honest, I am not really into the furniture and related expo, I only interested in something like Electronic Gaming Expo or the Consumer Electronics Show, Tokyo Game Show or perhaps the Taiwan Computex. They’re cool and bombastic gadgets show, which I like! Somehow, I need to be interested in furniture because I will be doing interior design course in college. Yeah.
Quite a lovely rainy day in Kuala Lumpur, it rained so big, the cats and dogs type of rain, it’s nice because it had been very hot weather since Chinese New Year. Temperature here in Malaysia is sky rocket high.
It’s interesting that the MIFF was not located on one venue only, it’s spread out to 3 convention hall, the KLCC, PWTC and MECC. I didn’t really have the feel to tour KL so was just following daddy here and there to do his business.
After finish touring the exhibition hall, we went to check-in at the hotel. We stayed at Concorde. It’s a walk-in as I tried to book hotel but many hotels were fully booked and it’s quite last minute too. Thankfully, there’s still room in Concorde.

Penang also got Jalan P. Ramlee.
We then walked to Avenue K which just right opposite KLCC. From the hotel to Avenue K is like 15 minutes away only, very close, and passed by the night life district.
Have been to KL for so many times, been shopping in Suria KLCC for so many times and it’s my first time getting so close to KLCC, right below it. I now only believe that it’s so magnificent even though it’s not the tallest now. Still, it’s the tallest STAINLESS STEEL TWIN tower in the world. ^^
Malaysia BOLEH.
It’s really a beautiful building and it’s a must visit and photograph if you come to Malaysia.
Avenue K is actually a shopping mall, but then no idea why, there’s no shop inside. There’s only a few restaurant and we went there for dinner. I actually visited the supercondo above Avenue K before, it was like last year. =)
Nice uncle living in KL brought us to this Ah Yat Abalone chinese restaurant. Nice food, nice place!
After dinner, I went to Suria KLCC to window shop a while because it’s still early and I didn’t want to go back to the hotel so soon, as there’s no Internet access also. So might as well stay outside a little while longer. Only then we walked back to the hotel. Then sleep. ^^

Views from hotel room. Saw Hard Rock Cafe yeah. Penang got Hard Rock Hotel.
The next day, went to visit Taylor’s College Lakeside Campus, very beautiful and only then a real window shopping at Suria KLCC again where dad went to visit to MIFF, KLCC hall. Then came back to Penang in evening. Yeah!

S.O.X. All-Stars March and Cheer
Written by Nicholas Chan on August 28, 2009 – 9:31 pm -Yeah and it’s the S.O.X. All-Stars March and Cheer event again. It has already been two weeks since the event had past. Just sharing around on what happened on that day at the event site at Stadium Badminton Cheras KL.

The judges.
When I first came across this thingy, I thought it will like just another youth carnival in town, there’s already so many for us to join, but somehow this turned out to be something different. It’s mainly themed on the band marching and cheerleading competition at the same time with side entertainment like the carnival thing that happened at the same place, same time. All brought to you by S.O.X.

The supporters.
The event itself was a blast, hosted by top MC, Yasmin Hani and one of everyone’s favourite, Fly FM DJ Hafiz Hatim. The competition was big, there are 13 cheerleading teams and 3 marching band. It’s just not all, local artists and groups were there too, rocking the whole stadium out loud. Pesawat, Liyana Jasmay, Caprice, One Nation MC, White Percussionist and EMAS Cheerleaders were among the performers at the event.

Many did enjoy the games and on-site activities too like face painting and shopping for food, clothing, and accessories at the bazaar. It’s really a fun day for everyone, with show, games, food, and more, guess it’s what “enjoy” means.
Talking back to the competition which is the main thing of this S.O.X. event, I’ll share with you some of the winning teams;

Cheer Category Winner:
- 1st Prize: Pirates, SMK Cochrane.
- 2nd Prize: Vibrant, SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, KL.
- 3rd Prize: Z’erox, SMK Seksyen 1, Bandar Kinrara.
March Category Winner:
- 1st Prize: SMK (P) Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru.
- 2nd Prize: SMK Tinggi Klang, Selangor.
- 3rd Prize: SMK La Salle, Klang.
Other prizes:
- Best Dressed March: SMK (P) Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru.
- Best Dressed Cheer: Dazzle, SMK (P) Pudu.
- Popular Choice March: SMK (P) Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru.
- Popular Choice Cheer: Vibrant, SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, KL.
- Best Cheer Captain: Esther Yeoh Shu Han from Vibrant, SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, KL.
- Best Drum Major: Nasruddin Mohd Shahri from SMK Tinggi Klang, Selangor.
Congratulations! If you missed it, hopefully there will be a repeat next year, I bet there will. Hehe.

Inside Pavilion Shopping Mall
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 7, 2009 – 10:00 am -Pavilion shopping mall is nice to walk and shop, but then there’s a lot of high end brand which I can’t afford. Though, walking around such place without buying anything is still nice. It’s different from the previous visit when I went there last weekend because it had became more crowded, still the crowds and people can’t beat the people in Hong Kong or Singapore.
It’s our first shopping mall stop in Kuala Lumpur. It’s 5 minutes walk from the hotel Impiana KLCC. Then we spent like 3 hours there in the mall, only then we went on to Lot 10 and Sungai Wang for a while then at night to Suria KLCC.
Walking is a good exercise but it’s tiring too. When we were at Sungai Wang, we wanted to take a cab or something to go back to the hotel, it’s like 15-20 minutes walk away because at that time we were tired. In the end, we walked back, it’s traffic jam and moreover cab in Kuala Lumpur is always expensive and is not paid according to meter which sucks.
Pavilion, you like?

Went to Starhill, Bukit Bintang
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 6, 2009 – 6:00 pm -Starhill at Bukit Bintang is always the most quiet and luxurious place to walk. It houses all the high end, designers’ brands and high class restaurants.
It’s always taking a walk for fun in there more than wanting to buy something there.
Louis Vuitton! All time famous designer’s label.
We went to Lacoste there too but unfortunately, OUT FOR BREAK! What on earth is this, they have like only A worker in the store?
Bottega Veneta, brand famous for its bag made for animal skins etc. goat, ship. I saw one which is RM14,000, made of skin of a young goat. The price is OMG. What do you think, a Louis Vuitton or a Bottega Veneta handbag for the ladies?

Posing at Machines, Lot 10
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 6, 2009 – 10:00 am -I and brother went to Machines at Lot 10. It’s 2 floors Apple store, selling Apple computer but not the Apple you eat. I like Apple, both the computer and the fruit. Though, I love the computer more than the fruit.
I love Apple so much!
