What I Think About 82nd Oscars

Written by Nicholas Chan on March 9, 2010 – 12:40 am -

I woke up pretty early today, not very early, at 9am exactly, washed up, then lay my lazy ass on the comfy couch and turned the satellite TV to the channel broadcasting 82nd Annual Academy Awards, a.k.a. Oscars. This is my first time watching a LIVE telecast of Oscars and I am a fan of movie and film. I didn’t watch all the 10 nominated Best Motion Pictures, but have watched Avatar, District 9, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Up and Up In The Air.

The event was so grand and I imagine myself, one day being at the event, as an invited guest or perhaps a behind-the-scene filmmaker? I’m dreaming definitely. Haha.

Well, the result is out. The Hurt Locker by top director, James Cameron’s ex wife Kathryn Bigelow had it big, won the Best Motion Pictures. IMO, I don’t like it, perhaps Oscars winning pictures are always like that? The film does has its special and arts, the blast and booms were nice, the story is special, the acting, but just it’s not an enjoyable one. Maybe because it’s about the US Army, it’s talking about patriotism? I don’t know.

Everyone was talking about Avatar, I don’t find it very interesting though, but I find it very AMAZING, it amazed me with the 3D, the music, the way of making and the animation. It does feel hollywood to me.

I like Inglourious Basterds, nice film, nice acting, hilarious and historical with lame fictional fact. This is also the film that made me know that who is Quentin Tarantino.

Up in the Air was boring to me, maybe I don’t know the way of enjoying it, but it’s nice being nominated.

District 9 was un-hollywood too. A documentary style film, could be a new style of making film and I find no reason disliking it.

Up, the animation was an art. I do feel the art, and the story was inspiring. I understand why it did not get the best film. =D

I didn’t watch the rest like An Education, A Serious Man, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, and The Blind Side. Gonna check it out soon when HD releases.

Another thing I would like to say, the most enjoyable film but was not nominated in 2009 is Star Trek.^^

Do you like The Hurt Locker?

Opening This Week 03/09/09

Written by Nicholas Chan on September 2, 2009 – 12:42 am -

There’s 3 movies premiering in cinema this week, I’m very excited of one of them, another one is a documentary Hong Kong movie and one more does not interest me that much.

The Final Destination 3D, this movie is going to be in 3D and I am so excited for it, hopefully the film censorship board doesn’t cut it and it’s still good. One thing is that I am under 18, wonder can I sneak in for the movie or not. Hehe. Must watch!

The Unbelievable 怪谈 Movie. Have not been watching the Hong Kong supernatural TV show for quite some times since they have remove it from YouTube, and now they made a movie, sounds cool.

In the Electric Mist. Not interesting to me, and it’s already available on PPS.tv by the way. =)

By the way, I watched The Orphans last week and it’s a very good movie, if you haven’t watch it, quickly go to your nearest cinema now. Another movie that I watched last weekend was Vangeance, it’s a peace of film noir art. The gun shots are more than talking in the movie, so it depends on whether you like this kind of movie or not, it’s not so exciting, but cool.

Opening This Week (2009) 23/08-29/08

Written by Nicholas Chan on August 26, 2009 – 12:02 pm -

If I didn’t go check on the net, it seems like there’s no cool movie coming out this week. But then, actually there are, but 3 of the 4 are Cantonese film.

Murderer, starring Arron Kwok.

Kung Fu Cyborg, doesn’t interest me that much with the title but there are Eric Tsang and Ronald Cheng in the movie.

Vengeance, a mix of English and Cantonese film. Big stars are in it too, Johnny Hallyday, Simon Yam, Anthony Wong and Maggie Siu. A movie by Johnny To, I like his movie.

Imagine That, the only Hollywood film opening this week. It’s a comedy with Eddie Murphy.

I think I am more interested in Murderer and Vengeance. =) I still got a few movies haven’t watch, Orphans and Laughing Gor! I want to watch them all but I don’t have the time. My god.

Opening This Week (2009) 16/08-22/08

Written by Nicholas Chan on August 16, 2009 – 12:00 am -

There’s Hong Kong film, horror/trailer, comedy and animation this weekend. Heard that Up was actually out in the pirated market few months ago, though I am not really into animation, I seldom watch animation in cinema one.

Laughing Gor 之變節 / Laughing Gor Turning Point. If you have watch E.U., the Hong Kong drama series, then you will know who’s Laughing is. The film is about Laughing being undercover in the triad. Starring some others big stars too like Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong, Francis Ng.

The Orphan. This seems like something horror and with a little bit of mystery.

I Love You Beth Cooper. There’s my favourite Heroes star, Hayden Panettiere (a.k.a. Claire Bennet in Heroes).

Up. Scoring very high scores in review, IMDB gave it an 8.8/10! Wondering should I watch it or not?

Opening This Week 13/08-19/08

I went to watch 2 movies last weekend, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and On His Majestic Secret Service, both are good, one is action packed and another is very funny. I highly recommend you to watch On His Majestic Secret Service.

My friend’s church organized a movie watching party last weekend for G.I. Joe and it’s fun because I get a free pop-corn and free drinks by paying the normal movie ticket price.

There’s only one movie I am looking forward to which is opening this week.

District 9, an alien sci-fi film.

Jom, let’s go watch. =D
