Black and White Banquet Dinner
Written by Nicholas Chan on July 2, 2008 – 12:37 am -It’s a night where all the Leo members that attended the Leo Forum gather around and had a former banquet dinner. They themed it the Black and White. Everyone has to be in either black or white or the combination of black and white.

(La Salle Leo if I am not mistaken, with us, me and Tee Jin)
As for myself, I get out of the theme a little bit as I don’t have a white shirt for that night, I only got a maroon purplish one and I got a black tuxedo on. Looking a little bit big on me because I am a tiny person, though, I still looked smart. Haha.
It’s the 2nd dinner of the Leo Forum. The first one was the Starlight Night which include the finale of the Leo Idol competition and mini concert.
This banquet night was more likely on awards presentation and food. It has better food because it was a Chinese course dinner which we don’t need to walk, queue and get our own food ala buffet.
This dinner was held at Florex Chinese Restaurant in Ipoh. Before going to Ipoh, I made some research on the net and I got to know that the restaurant premise was not actually a restaurant but it was a cinema. Won’t be surprise that there’s pest that run through your legs, so I can conclude that it’s not a very well-maintained and hygienic place.
(Me and KOKahKOK)
Besides award presentation, there’s a interesting auction went on. We used artificial printed money to bid for prize, it’s just same as gambling because all of those prize were mystery gift and we didn’t know which was a good investment and which was not. You may sometimes, losses all your “money” to the mystery gift for just a pretty girl smile or a hug.
After so many rounds of auction, the most valuable prize was the RM210 DiGi Prepaid reload coupon that not our club won. We did actually have the most money but we did the wrong investment.
We at first don’t have that much money for the auction game, we then combined our “money” with other Leo club from the same states and then we started doing our “investing”. Unfortunately, we auctioned a balloon for high prize and in the end the best we got was a food basket and afterall we still got money left.
Kuala Lumpur Leos can be said that win and lose out in that auction. What they win was that the donation of RM10k to Sichuan Earthquake Victims was on behalf of their names, and what they lose was, they got nothing except names.
Party came after the dinner. Half of the group that were not party/clubbing gang went back the hotel. I was there to join the fun, I always like party, dancing and sort of stuff. It’s like interacting, expressing yourself. Though this doesn’t last long as the restaurant was closing the door. I could see that most of the chicks were quite good in dancing, clubbing chicks perhaps.
Well, it’s a very fun night to us. It’s another reason for high school student to join Leo Club. =D

Penang Citi Stock Challenge at USM
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 26, 2008 – 1:30 am -Well, I had been gone away from school for 2 days to the Universiti Sains Malaysia for attending some sort of workshop and little competiton and it’s the Citi Stock Challenge. 9 students from the Young Enterprise club and I’m part of the 9 went there.
So what is this Citi Stock Challenge is about engaging students into the market trade world, how it works, how to invest, knowledge on stocks and market, etc etc. Basically, it teaches you how to be a broker and eventually run a brokerage firm.
It’s better than going to school as the whole event started at 8.30am which means that I can wake up a bit later than the normal school days. There’s about 20+ schools’ students taking part in this workshop, not everyone get to come, it’s only the chosen one. Hohoho.
The first day was kinda bored, it’s all about listening on the talks, how it works, what is it about, how to run a brokerage firm, it’s like a whole day long lesson in the lecture hall in the university. I know nothing about stocks at first and that’s why I paid my concentration most of the time.
The interesting time comes the next day where the stock market game starts. It’s a non-uniform day where we don’t need to wear our own school uniform instead we actually need to make our own costume or a theme wear or so-called our own brokerage firm uniform.
I am not a girl, I don’t have that kind of mind to think about fancy dresses and so we opt for professionalism look, black polo tee and jeans. =D My friend, Tee Jin and Bernard didn’t have black pole tee and I have to borrow mine to them.

Before the virtual stock market start, we arrived early at the scene to set up our little office that made up of 3 desk. Table cloth, pen holders and stationery were brought. I got no idea how to decorate our office, it’s very simple, neat and tidy with a few oranges on the desk as our company was the Orange Brokerage Firm.
The startup money for our investment business was $1000, in the middle of the games, bonus money were given too for having their own business card, name tags, decorations, costume and blablablabla. We were just hanging a pair of oranges around the neck and we also get the bonus money for costuem. Great right?
There’s several round where we can buy the stocks, each round we were given a set of newspaper articles to read about how’s the market is doing and stuff like that, we will then decide which and what to buy. It’s 3 in a team, or a “firm”, though it’s like we a few teams have already talk and discuss about which and what to buy so all our stocks were like actually almost the same.
We thought that it will have like 8 rounds as the screen showed we got 8 AP headlines of different timeline, though we only 4 rounds. Things got messier as rounds goes on, we got more cash, more stock, more records and paperworks to do and this is where multitasking mind comes in. We buy almost every stocks, didn’t figure about it for long and just buy, buy, buy. Luckily, this buying craziness made us $7540 from the startup money $1000. The most earning team got 8k, and we were the 2nd in the boys team.
When the winner were announced, it says “it’s a team, with colour and it’s a fruit”, I was like OMG, it’s us, it’s us, the Orange Brokerage Firm. Yes it is and at first I thought we wouldn’t make it to the stage because there’s A team that had higher amount of earning than us, but overall we were 2nd for that in the boys group. Who cares which place I get, as long as I get onto the stage, I am already happy about it.
Check out some group photos after the break, click more now.

988 Outdoor Live Broadcast and Penang CM Lim Guan Eng
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 25, 2008 – 12:22 am -988 is the only Chinese radio station that I listened to in Malaysia. The reason I chose 988 over MY FM or Ai FM, the other 2 Chinese commercial radio station in Malaysia because 988 has more Cantonese speaking DJs and show than the other 2 radio stations and yes I speaks Cantonese at home and I am a Cantonese, so that’s why.
Last weekend, 988 and RED FM, different language radio station from the same company came to Penang to set up a temporarily studio at KOMTAR to run a outdoor live broadcasting. I went to check it out on the Saturday, Penang beloved Chief Minister Honourable Lim Guan Eng was there too to have an interview.
It’s a interview on what the new Penang government had done after 100 days of rulling after the general election which happened 3 months ago. Since I was free on that days, so I went there after having my lunch.
(Me and DJ Dai Bo)
The live broadcast start early in the morning at 7am and I was there at 1230pm, the interview starts at 1pm. It was a little box right across Prangin Mall and the pedestrian walkway of KOMTAR, I was like standing outside the red box under the scorching heat of the sun with others. If you listens to the 988, you will know the DJ Jeff, Dai Bo, Ah Son and Qiu Yue from the Halo Joe Shen show. They were there hosting the special show on weekend which is actually normally on the weekdays.
Peoples were signing their names to receive a feedback and comment form which was to comment on the new Penang government and there’s a field on the form which you could ask any question to the CM.
Also, there were these smily and saddy faces were given to the first 50 people who signs their names. It was use to show what do you think about a particular thing that the Penang government had done in the 100 days that you agree with it, support it, like it, or not, etc. the abolished of New Economic Policy in Penang, the RM100s for poor family and others. Of course, it was smily all the time for me.
There were like so many press and videographers in the little box, I guess it’s hot inside even there’s 2 air con, though we who were outside the box were hotter man, the cloud comes and goes, sometime hot, sometime not. Damn, it’s so uncomfortable.
Surprisingly, I saw Hong Kong’s press and media were there too. At first I thought it was someone that bought a 2nd hand camera from Hong Kong TVB and later it was true that the crew were from Hong Kong as the DJ introduced about them.
If you listened to the radio last weekend, you would actually heard my voice over the air as I did ask a question to CM about the public transportation in Penang. =D I did not said my name though, I just said that I am a student from Chung Ling.
So how many points did Penang vote for CM Lim? It’s 77.23. If I was not mistaken, I’ve written 65/100 for him.
After 2 hours of interviewing session and standing under the hot sun, finally I can get my feet off the ground to somewhere else. When the CM came out of the BOX, everyone were like following him, asking for autograph and taking photograph with him. Since everyone was doing it, why not me?
Yo! He is the Penang celebrity CM just that I don’t know he can sing or not. It’s his Penang, his first time, so let’s give him a chance. I know nothing about politics. Hehe.
(Hong Kong TVB News team)
Well, it’s time to go back after everything was done. I also didn’t really want to stay after that and I took the bus back. Later evening on the same day, there’s also a live broadcast by RED FM, but I didn’t really listen to that station so I did not bother about it. (:

Whitening Toothpaste
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 24, 2008 – 7:07 am -Finally, I got my lazy ass of my chair to go look out for a teeth whitening tooth paste. Although my teeth are already yellowish when I am born but it’s getting more and more dirty. Despite being lazy to go and look for a dentist to do teeth cleaning. I found a lot of teeth whitening toothpaste in the shopping mall, all are like saying that one will have their teeth whitened in 14 days.
Though, all are just local and very common brand, after looking around for sometimes, I found the above one. Pearl Drops toothpaste, it’s so freaking expensive for RM28.90 and it claim that the teeth will be whitened in 3 weeks. Longer but reputable because it’s from England. Let’s check out my teeth in 3 weeks time.

I was at Apple Switch World at Gurney Plaza
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 19, 2008 – 6:48 am -I loves attending tech related exhibition, expo and fares because at those event, you can try a lot of technology products. I am someone that like to stay at home yet like to go out also, crashing parties, attending event to join the crowds. It’s fun, seriously. I had more likely becoming an independent journalist, though I still need to workout on my writing skills.
Last weekend, there’s an event held in Gurney Plaza and that was the Switch World which was all about the Apple Computers product. I love Apple, I have a lots of iPod but I still do not own a Apple Macintosh machine yet.

What attracted me to the event was not the products at first because I am quite a Apple Centre regular visitor everytime I go to the mall. I will visit the store to play the computer but after so many years of visits, I bought nothing there. XD What it was, was the fashion show and the photography competition where there were models with Apple products on stage and again do the model shoot and send in your photos.
Actually I went there alone, but later Alvin had decided to join me. Went there right after my CCA meeting in school, and see the place was quite crowded. However, the photographers that attended the event were not as much as at the World Of EOS few weeks back. The stage was pretty small and because there’s booth set up everywhere, it’s pretty hard to move around. I still haven’t filter up the photo of the model yet, it will be up soon.

Unfortunate event happened and that was my battery runs flat after 1 hour of continuous shooting. There’s still long way to go but the battery disobeyed me. I had another spare battery with me but it’s not working, I assume it’s dead because it had went into the washing machine twice.

Well, no more photos taking, I just walked around surf the net with the showcased Mac computer and played with all the speakers by plugging in my iPod and turn the music out loud. The sales guy was looking at us (me and some friends), but he can’t do anything because they were all the demo unit what. I even login to my blogs on all of the computer for fun. Haha, at least with those computer, I can do some free advertising at public places.

The event wasn’t that big, it’s just computereverywhere for people to try out, no discount or whatsoever but as a Apple fan, I am glad that I was there. There’s little talk on how to operate a Mac computer, sometimes there’s people there to hear the talk, but sometimes, I pity the speakers because he was like talking to nobody.
After we had done with everything, I went to watch The Happenings, I would say that it’s better to watch this on the pirated DVD rather than watch in the cinema, it’s kinda boring, but it’s a new approach of movie genre, just like I Am Legend.
Note : Model photos coming soon.

Gift for Anthony Kev, a Big 7 Zai
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 15, 2008 – 4:41 pm -Last week was my respectful teacher’s birthday, Mr Anthony Kev and I and many friends in my class shared the money for a big gift to him. At first, I got no idea what to get for him, thinking of Levi’s wallet or underwear, then later maybe a shirt.

I got a friend suggested to buy something cute, a huge soft toy, and another one suggested 7 Zai 七仔 (Chat Zai) of the movie CJ7 since Anthony Kev admire Stephen Chow so much.

I wanted to find a large human size soft toy, but the largest 7 Zai was this. I can’t find any 7 Zhai bigger than this, but since my friends were saying this is pretty big so I think it’s good already.
Original 7 Zai in the movie is green in colour, but this blue one is bigger than the green one and since the green one is so common, so might as well take a change and get something different and unique.

Staying up late for WWDC 08
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 10, 2008 – 1:31 am -Peoples or friends around me do stay up late often for playing games or catch up a midnight live soccer match. I am not fan of any sports and I only watch football when everyone is watching like the final of those league, or Fifa World Cup to join the fun.

I am a pretty tech enthusiast or a tech freak because I stays up late to catch those live press conference, presentation or keynote like E3, Tokyo Game Show and the current Apple WWDC or the Worldwide Developers Conference. I am someone that want to be the firsthand to know the latest news and update on the gizmo world and that is the reason I am not sleeping now.
(my brother is also checking the live update too!)
Though, people in school will not know what I am talking about to them because people are not so tech savvy yet. Haha.
Anyway, wonder how am I gonna survived the 6 hours in school tomorrow as I will be just sleeping for like 3-4 hours later. X.X

Malaysia Petrol Price Hike
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 4, 2008 – 11:14 pm -I was surfing the net and keep seeing people writing message about the petrol price hike on their MSN, chatbox, Twitter and etc etc. I thought it was just fake like last time, however it turns out to be something true. The Malaysia’s Petrol Price is going up from RM1.92/litre to RM2.70/litre which is quite big increase in the price, which is going to be near to the Thailand’s petrol price.
Inflation, price hike, food getting more expensive, everything getting more expensive. Sadly, people is talking about no increase in their salary or pay. Should I asked my mom to increase my allowance too? Haha, in conjunction with the inflation and price hike, I’m sure stuff around me will increase the price too, wonder do the school continue to subsidy the canteen auntie uncle for the low priced food.
The road right now is just fulled of cars making a long line of traffic jam at the petrol station all over the country. Hoping to get a full tank before 12am where the number turns to 270.0sen/litre. I’m sure there’s station going dry with no petrol left. If you are lucky, you get a full tank before 12am. =)
There’s a petrol station beside my place, took the fun to walked there to take a look at the traffic jam on the road and join the fun with them. Haha. Sorry about the blurish photo because my big camera was running dry on the battery.
