Photos with bloggers at Nuffnang Blog Awards
Written by Nicholas Chan on November 4, 2009 – 10:28 am -If I were to take photos with all of the bloggers on that night, this post will be freaking full of photos and you guys will never visit my blog again because of my site slowing your Internet down. There’s like 200 bloggers that night at the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards.
I didn’t really know people around because I didn’t see his/her blog before. I only know a few which I’ve seen their blog before. Names were not what I addressing because I have a bad memory for names, but instead, I called them with their blog address, eg. Mr Nick Chan Dot Net. =D

Start up with something local, something close. Mr Alvin Yang Dot Net, Nick Chan Dot Net, Ji Xiang (not-blogger) and Alvin On Nine Dot Com. Ok, they are from my school, from the fourth form but not very close. We are the only peoples that’s representing Chung Ling High School, my high school. Haha.
Mr KY Speaks Dot Com. So surprise to know that he was from Penang and from the same high school! An alumni and a senior for me. Unexpected.

Ms Four Feet Nine Dot Com a.k.a. Audrey, pretty girlfriend to the boss of Nuffnang.

Famous full-time blogger, Ms Cheeserland Dot Com a.k.a. Ringo! OMG, so nice.

Another famous one, full-time travel blogger, Nicole Kiss.

Xiaxue! Singapore’s most famous blogger and awarded Region’s Best Blog. OMG! Ignore my eyes, my expression was epic. Haha.

Here comes Malaysia’s most famous blogger, Kennysia. My second photo with him, my first photo was taken 2 years back.

My favourite local ang-mo (foreigner/caucasian) blogger, Shaolin Tiger.

Sorry, I didn’t watch Project Alpha, but I know she’s one of the blogger in Project Alpha. Red Mummy who had a hot eyelashes.

With A Shopaholics Den dot Com and her friend, =X, I have forgotten her name.

V Vens dot Com, who was on the same table in the hall. =)

Sam, from KL.

Rei, from KL, same table in the hall, and same tour group too.

Singaporean bloggers, Stephen and Cedric.

Another Singaporean blogger and pro filmmaker! Jayden, who won the Pringles video contest. Damn cool, ok.

Jimmy America who made an awesome stop-motion video for the Pringles contest and his girlfriend, Violet Lebeaux.

Timonthy Tiah, the boss, the co-founder of Nuffnang.

Boss Ming, the boss, the co-founder of Nuffnang, too!

Another photo with non-blogger, Ji Xiang.

Another photo of me with Alvin taken at around 1230am. It’s so late and we still couldn’t get back to the hotel due to some technical error. Haha. Afterall, the night was fun, good experience, nice meeting people around, nice saying Hi to famous bloggers and good food.
I did not straight go to bed after we reached the hotel, I turned on the laptop and started to do my usual stuff, Facebook, news, Twitter, Plurk, email and etc. =D
Next stop: Uniquely Singapore tour. Mint Toy Museum was the first stop of the tour.

Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards at Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore
Written by Nicholas Chan on November 3, 2009 – 12:32 am -On the previous post, I talked about myself going to Vivo City in the afternoon, wasting quite some times there. We went back to the hotel at around 5 and reached room at about 5.30pm. Alvin was so lazy and jumped on to the bed. For me, I did not take any rest but was just surfing a little bit of the net only then I went to get ready for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards.
I was expecting something grand, something like Oscar, with red carpets, camera, tuxedo, suits, gown and etc.
Because of my tiny body and short height, I can hardly get a pre-made blazer out there for me. I think I should go tailor-made one for me already, in case I need to attend such event again in the future (hope not very far future). I went for simplicity, all black and with my favourite polka dots tie.
I am always late, everyone was asked to gather at the lobby at 6.30pm, but I only got out from the room at that time. Took my camera with me, my phone and it’s all set. The lobby of the hotel is very small and I was so surprised to see everyone looking so gorgeous.
It seems like everyone had already been waiting for a while at the lobby already and the Nuffies had started calling names. Bloggers were just busy taking photos. I was so stranger at there because I found no familiar faces and not a face that says he or she is from Penang. So, I waited for me to arrive at Pan Pacific Hotel, only then I starts my “Hi, I am Nicholas, I blog at Nick Chan Dot Net, bla bla bla”.

There’s 4 bus parked at the back of the hotel. Ferrying around 150 bloggers from the hotel to the location. One thing I forgot to say is that, DSLRs were so common among them, almost every of the blogger has one, it’s so freaking cool.
We arrived at the ballroom side of the hotel instead of the lobby. It seems like everyone was already there and camera flashes were everywhere as we stepped into the cocktail area. It’s Western style, with people moving around with glasses of water and there’s chips on the table too as Pringles was one of the sponsors.
Boss Timonthy Tiah.
We have to sign ourselves up at the registration booth to get a Nuffnang booklet which works at an entry ticket. Then I spent quite some times at the cocktail area wandering around, looking at peoples, said hi to some I-didn’t-know blogger.
They even have this cool area set up for photography. Just like any awards show where the celebrities will stand there, pose for photograph or speak.
I’ll skipped my photos taken with fellow blogger first and go into the Nuffnang Blog Awards banquet hall.

There’s a red carpet out there, it’s real red and as I walked into the hall. Camera flashes on me again. I felt like I am a celebrity but in fact, everyone felt the same too. My table number was 36 and it’s quite far from the stage.
Though, that’s not the problem because there’s a big screen showing what’s happening on the stage at our place. The music in the hall was rather loud which made communicating a little bit difficult. We had Western styled, four course fine dining, which was also my first time and I liked it a lot.
Entertainment of the night was the very interesting illusion magic by hot Magic Babe Ning and JC Sum, very loud rock band, Electrico and the night was hosted by Amazing Race Asia’s host, Allan Wu.
It’s so interesting to see those nominated blog, now only I know that there’s so many good blogs out there. For the list of Winner, you can check it out here. I’ll still share you 2 names that everyone knows and it’s Xiaxue and Kennysia. Xiaxue was the biggest winner of the night as she got away with 3 awards. Cool.
My submitted video for Pringles competition didn’t get nominated and I believe I didn’t add in the tagline and it’s not in English. Somehow, I salute the winner, Jayden who is really pro in video making.
The whole thing ran quite well and ended at around 11.30pm. Pity the MC/Host Allan Wu because he’s always on stage announcing the winner and don’t get to eat with us. The only thing that made the event not-so-perfect was the lack of alcohol, I bet everyone will be high if there’s alcohol in the hall. But then, I am underage. Haha.
We did not really go home right after it ended, but it’s photography session with fellow bloggers outside the ballroom until near midnight. The last bus was really late because of some technical error. We almost need to call for cab to take us back to hotel but in the end, the bus was there.
Rocks!
Next stop: Same place but lots of photos with bloggers.

Nick Chan Dot Net on Epop Magazine
Written by Nicholas Chan on May 15, 2009 – 12:27 am -Do you know about Epop magazine? No, I did not until last week when someone text me “I saw your blog on Epop!”. I didn’t know what he was talking about, I only knew my blog appereared somewhere and it must a me priting media.
I didn’t found any info of Epop on the Internet too. They should have set up a site. After checking out with my friend, it’s actually a weekly Chinese entertainment magazine which is targetted to young teenager girls.
The next day, I quickly went to Popular to look for an issue before my Star Trek movie, it’s only RM3 which is relatively cheap but when when you buy every issue, it will be RM12 per month with 4 weeks in a month, which is still more expensive than my favourite gadget magazine T3 (RM9) or Digital Camera (RM9 too!).
The point is not on the book but on my blog. I was surprised at first because I did not receive any email about publishing my blog. Maybe they are not tech conscious but anyway, I am glad to see my blog screenshot on there. They just screenshot the whole Chung Ling Annual Hiking Event post into their magazine.
Actually, anyone also can get featured in this page by just sending their blog address for a review. However, the thing is I did not know about this magazine, it must be someone who submitted it or the editor him or herself found my blog. Thank you so much for putting my in your magazine. =)

Hello smashpOp at Starbucks Coffee, The Garden
Written by Nicholas Chan on December 17, 2008 – 2:05 am -(not at this Starbuck)
I met one of the superblogger-photographer, Mr Jason Goh a.k.a. smashpOp at Starbucks Coffee, The Garden, Mid Valley few weeks ago while I was in Kuala Lumpur. At first I saw his update on Twitter than he was at Starbucks Coffee, I was thinking to meet him but after some times, I’ve actually forgotten about it. Just while I was walking from The Garden to Mid Valley, passed the Starbucks Coffee, I saw him. That’s a lucky one, said Hi and took a photograph.
Okay, I looked kid and yes I am still a kid. This was the 2nd time meeting him, the first time was while he was in Penang.

Penang 2nd Food Blogger Gathering at Edelweiss Cafe
Written by Nicholas Chan on September 29, 2008 – 7:57 pm -Last weekend, I’ve attended a food blogger gathering at Edelweiss Cafe, a swiss restaurant at Armenian Street. If you know about me, I do have a food blog, I love to eat, I love to shoot and so I share what I eat and some food pr0n at SHIOK OR NOT – The Food Blog. I recommend you to visit it when you are hungry. Haha.
(Speaking is Nigel of Tripadvisor.com)
It’s the 2nd food blogger gathering, thanks to Lingzie for organizing it and Criz for informing me about this event. I missed the first one at Hai Nan Town, and I couldn’t be missing the second one again. Actually I have event that evening but at last minute it canceled and only then I could go to this food blogger gathering. I tagged along Yiphing and Alvin Yang with me.
(Nigel’s wife, Diane. Thanks for letting us to take photos of your sausages.)
It’s a small place, approximately local food bloggers and some guest attended this gathering. I get a starter, main course, dessert, coffee and a little door gift by paying RM38. It’s not that bad, once in a while is okay. It starts of with a little introduce-yourself thing by going round. I wore my NICKCHAN.NET shirt and it seems like people are liking it. Thank you.
I got to know about some other food bloggers that I’ve never heard before and also met the famous 5xmom who makes money through blogging.

(Durianberry of The Gastronomic Diary)
(Allen of Yummy-Station)
(Lingzie the organizer with Criz hiding at the back)
(I need names, please identify yourself. Haha. I know Steven Goh is the first one on the right)
(Criz of Criz Bon Appetite)
(Me and CK of What2See)
It’s a little gathering where people sit down on a round table, eat, talk and exchange ideas. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to know all, but at least I made friends.
Food was pretty good, it was my first time eating out at Edelweiss and if there’s a chance, I’ll go there again. My mom and dad don’t fancy swiss food and so I’ve to look for friends.
It was a nice experience eating out with other food bloggers and given me a chance to expose myself to the real world instead of just sitting in front of the computer screen. Thanks Lingzie for taking me home and Shi Hui for the brownie.
