Setting Up New Ikea Lamps In My Room

Written by Nicholas Chan on July 11, 2009 – 10:59 pm -

I bought the Ikea halogen wall lamp last year in the only Ikea store in Damansara, I didn’t get to mount it up as I don’t have my driller and screw. Moreover dad says it won’t be looking good if I mount it up right below my bookshelves because the halogen lamp is too thick. So he asked me to keep it perhaps he may use for his client in the future, yes, he does interior design.

While doing a little bit cupboard cleaning, I found the lamp just lying inside, I think dad and me had probably forget about it. Inspiration then came in my mind of setting it up in another way, without the need of any screw and driller. No holes, which is instead of making to light shines downward, I make it shines upward to the ceiling, creating a bounce light effect, so it will look warm and soft. Not so striking on my desk.

This is my first time setting up lamps at home. Ikea’s stuff comes with a simple pictorial guide with no words. So anyone and work out with their stuff easily.

It’s very annoying when setting it up with the cable dangling around. When it comes to cable management, it’s headache time when I got limited tools. I only know how to hide it up.

There’s not only cable for the lamps on top, there’s also cable and plug from my printer and a rear speaker.

At first, I was thinking of using only the 2 lamps out of 3, which the 2 place on top of the bookshelves shining to the ceiling, then I decided to add another 0ne behind my monitor since the cable is long.

I got no idea where the switch should be locate, there’s no hole for me to hide the cable and I only can place it somewhere that is not noticable when people walks in my room.

One thing that do you notice the photos of baby up there? Ignore them if you may, one of them was me and another 2 were brother. The place where I hide the cables is behind the 3 photos, so you probably don’t want to take away the photos from there.

The photos of my new workspace lighting are on the other post.
