Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is not my new toy

Written by Nicholas Chan on January 12, 2009 – 12:50 am -

New toy for me? NO is what I am answering you. Posting photo of this box doesn’t means that I got a new lens, there’s actually no lens inside. It’s just a box that the owner owed me till now. I actually got this lens for more than half a year already, it’s a second hand lens that I bought for only RM550 that time, the retail original for this is around RM800 and I’ll consider myself lucky. The warranty for the lens is still there too.

I more like to take photos on a wide end rather than focusing on a particular subject on a telephoto. Anyway, it’s just depend on what I want to take. I uses the 50mm more than this telephoto lens. It does help me a lot during the International Dragon Boat Competion.

Nick, I just think that if you want an Ultra-Wide Angle lens you may want to stay away from the EF-S 10-20mm. Firstly the lens isn't cheap and the fact that you can only use it on a 1.6x crop is disheartening. There is also no guarantee the 1.6x crop is here to stay. Get an EF lens just in case you want to upgrade to full frame or other crops. ;) For all we knows in few years time the prices for full frame will be tumbling down and what a waste if your UWA lens is only restricted to 1.6x crop.
