Candlelight Vigil at Gurney Drive for ISA detainees
Written by Nicholas Chan on September 17, 2008 – 11:18 pm -Yesterday night was a peaceful Malaysia Day night. No riot or whatsoever because that Mr Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not really take over the fed yet but I believe one day he will.
There was a candlelight vigil for the recent ISA detainees, Teresa Kok, RPK and also (Hindraf 5) at Penang’s Gurney Drive last night. My home near to Gurney Drive and that has already given me a chance to join the crowd. I first read about this candlelight vigil on the newspaper and I told myself “I must go there”. For work and also for the ISA detainees.
I got to say that, I cannot accept the reason given out by the Home Minister about the arrest of the Chinese reporter. Anyway, it has passed and I don’t want to look back. (Some) People will never apologize for what had done wrong.
My favourite man, Mr YB Lim Guan Eng was not there but it was nice to see the Bukit Bendera MP and DAP Strategist, Liew Chin Tong was there and also some state assembly man were there too like Ng Wei Aik, Koay Teng Hai and others.
There were approximately 200-300 peoples gathered at Gurney Drive “bird” roundabout. DAP people was giving out candle. I did actually brought my own pack of candle and a lighter, but there’s no need of it. Since they were giving out for free, we take it. Mom and dad had the candle in hand while I was just busy moving around to take photos. I saw bloggers MX, 5xmom, 9pek9bo, CharlesMonkey and OSK were there too.
Politicians were talking about the ISA and praying that all the ISA detainees can be released soon. There’s also policemen patrolling the area.
The candlelight vigil ended with policeman shouting “pergi, pergi” which means “go, go”. I guessed the permit time for holding the candlelight vigil was over. Everyone started walking away and I refuse to leave because I have photos to take.
The real ending was when everyone sang the “Suara Rakyat” then later followed by our national anthem “Negaraku”. Only then the police came by and dismissed the crowds.
Let’s pray for the release of RPK, Teresa Kok and the Hindraf Five and too the abolished of Internal Security Act.
