Lions Club organized Climb For Environment

Written by Nicholas Chan on May 12, 2008 – 10:34 pm -

st Sunday, I attended a charity group hiking event at Penang Hill. It’s organized by the Lions Club and all the registration fee we paid goes to charity. I paid RM5 for this event, adults are RM10, and I got myself a green t-shirt, a banana, a mineral water and a bread, and too a certificate of participation. Worth it.

The hike was via the tar road instead of moon gate or the one that starts from Botanical Garden which has steps for you to walk. It’s tar road all way long up the hill. This takes a longer time, the road is quite steep at some corner.

YB Lim Guan Eng was in Kuala Lumpur if I am not mistaken, if he was not in KL, he would have been here to officiate his event. Instead, I-don’t-know-how-this-was, came by.

It’s me and some friend that were walking along the road. Talking around, it’s heavy to carry a camera around but who ask me to like photography. At some times, we couldn’t even talk because everyone was so exhausted until that have to shut up to retain energy. LOL.

Still remember the board above? During the same event last year, I still remember that it was in nice condition but this time it’s broke into half. How come?

On the way up to Penang Hill, in total I think I took 3 break, longest was 5 minute, shortest was 1 minute. Tried not to talk, slowed my breathing and stop thinking useless stuff, my target was to reach the top.

I also saw some people with mountain bike. Imagine some corner were so steep as more than 45 degree, woah! You must have a good strength to cycle up. Not me.

I think in less than 2 hour, I reached the top. My friend was fast, he reached the top, then walked back down to look for us and walked back up again. Good stamina he has. Surprisingly, when I reached the top, the tiredness feeling goes away by itself. Felt happy because it’s an achievement.

Up there, we ate our breakfast and ice kacang, people say it’s famous, but didn’t heard about it much. Then walked around the area and nothing much I can do there. It’s not like The Peak in Hong Kong which has a small shopping mall up there. Eventually, I found something new to me at Penang Hill, a Indian temple and a mosque. =D

Later on, there goes a lucky draw session. I lost my ticket or some of my friend took it, I didn’t even bother about it so much. Grand prize was still the same as last year, a motorbike. I have not getting any prize in lucky draw sessions lately, guess the luck is not here yet. My friend, Andy was lucky to get himself a organic cooking oil. Haha, it’s better than nothing.
