Played with PayPass but failed

Written by Nicholas Chan on December 12, 2007 – 12:38 am -

Yesterday, I and brother went to KFC at Island Plaza to eat lunch. Then I saw the Mastercard PayPass machine there at the counter. I remembered my brother had a credit card that has PayPass too, so I told him. He wanted to try paying the meals we order with the card. Took out the card, tap tap tap, but not working. Stupid CIMB card. Is it the card or the machine? I think it’s the card leh. Must ask brother to call CIMB to scold them already. Hehe.

Kinda cool, tap tap, then your thing is paid already. But if someone’s card get stolen and he didn’t realise. He sure ki tulan (get angry), because his card will let that guy who stold to tap till siao (crazy).

    1. No merchant anywhere that accepts MasterCard or Visa can impose minimum amounts in order to process a MasterCard or Visa, thus teddY -- no there is no minimum to get them to work, but a signature might be required if over a certain dollar

    2. You should complain to the KFC manager or clal your card issuer -- CIMB. They can contact the merchan ton your behalf and get them in trboule or fine them or advise them to get the readers up and running.

    3. It most likely was the reader that was broken. In NYC I often encouter broken readers and know my card works just fine as I had used it earlier or on another day --both swipe and tapping. I just call up my card issuer Chase or Citi and give them the merchant's names and address and they in tunr contact MasterCard who contact the merchant's bank to addess the issue.

    Good Luck!
  • in malaysia not that much shops have this. but it's very common in singapore la....
  • Is there a minimum amount before the tap thing works? Because I know for some debit and credit cards there's a minimum amount to be paid in order to use them. Anyway I think it's always better to keep a credit card than these cards because like what you've pointed out once you lose it, you'll lose a lot more from your bank.
