The Island’s Back
Written by Nicholas Chan on June 13, 2007 – 1:53 pm -Have you been to the Island’s Back before? Not Brokeback. LOL. Last Sunday I went to Balik Pulau, which also mean Island’s Back in English. Balik Pulau is a small town, on the other side of Penang Island. Long time didn’t go there already, wanted to go there eat Laksa, Hokkien Mee, Liu Lian but when we go, sou tong(Close) already, probably because we went near evening time.
There kinda ulu, not the town, but outside the town. Kampong, fishing village, I didn’t went to the beach, I think the sea and beach there are cleaner than Batu Ferringhi. From the busy side of the Island, sometimes you never know there exist a mini town on the other side of the island. See the above picture, totally different from Georgetown. No tall building.

Petai. Why petai? My mom bought petai there for my grandma to cook. Petai is Chou Dao, translate to English is smelly nut. She also bought mangosteen there, kinda cheap, RM10 got MANY. We ate finish already. Hehe

Kinda cool huh the town? The last time I went here is like few years ago and I don’t really remember this place. Last time I went to some orchard to eat Durian and somewhere near the beach eat laksa. That day, we arrive there at 5.30pm, the Laksa there sell finish and the hawker was packing and cleaning up. Cannot eat.

So where did I go? Dad brought us to one of the Tsunami hit area, Kampong Pulau Betong. Next post will be Kampong Pulau Betong, don’t want to make this post so many photos, HAHA! Then later went to eat seafood. I never knew Penang got such nice place. Cool!
So, do you know Balik Pulau? Went there before? What you did there?
